Inconceivable!
Aug. 16th, 2021 04:07 pmI have a longer post I'm still noodling around details on, but since this is a recurring theme in the news today, I thought I'd address it.
After the final pullout of troops from Afghanistan, the departing Americans wound up with the same result that the departing Soviets did 40 years before, and who knows how many other departing empires did before them. With little other bad shit to pin on him, the usual Repugnicant suspects turned to blame Biden for this turn of events. The Sunday shows were apparently full of it, but I got this dose of vitriol in an email blast from local racist pundit Crazy Carl Paladino:
What is wrong with you people? The half-assed abandonment of Afghanistan was another Saigon FUBAR effort and nightmare embarrassment for the Afghan people, our allies, and the American people. Our cowardly, incompetent and insolent Federal elected leaders have embarrassed our country and its people and we have not heard shit from any of you. Biden, in hiding, must be impeached and the generals, diplomats, and other military leaders responsible should be fired for being useless wimps and cowards. We all know that Biden has left the reservation but also the appointed leaders in his administration are totally out of sync with the will of the American people. Note that we left troops in Germany, Korea, and Japan for over 70 years and God can’t count the countries where American troops are stationed today. Do us all a favor and call for impeachment or resignation so a real American can do the job. This is not a question of politics. It is purely Biden’s competence to do the job.
This, from one of the staunchest supporters of the last guy, who actually wanted to meet with the Taliban at Camp David in 2019, lending them the same credibility he lovingly gave to his North Korean BFF. The Republican National Committee's website had been trump-eting (heh) what great guys these gay-hating Afghan patriots were, until all references to them, and to their photo ops together, have suddenly been scrubbed. But please, blame it on the old guy who used to work for the Black guy.
As for Crazy Carl's Saigon reference: I was alive, and pretty politically aware, in late April of 1975, when Saigon fell and those photos came out of desperate Americans climbing onto choppers.

I don't remember any Democrats blaming Gerald Ford for it, calling him an embarrassment for letting it happen on his watch and demanding his impeachment over it.
Because why would they? He'd been in office less than a year, and was merely the last in a series of presidents whose predecessors had foolishly gotten us into a land war in Asia with no prospect of ever getting out victoriously.
At least Carl admits that Kamala Harris is a "real American." Although, to be honest, Carl, I do not think that means what you think it means.
