Yes, I'm old enough to remember Bob Barker being on that show. To this day, there's a crazy town in New Mexico that changed its name to that as part of a promotion sponsored by the program; but then, there are a lot of crazy towns down there;)
But for present purposes, the Tooth's the thing, or rather the lack of one.
I was rather dreading my visit to Dr. Ron yesterday as being more of a visit to Dr. Doom. Doctor Impending Doom.
My teeth (and sisters', and nieces', and kid's) are basically made out of styrofoam. I've had fillings, and crowns, and root canals, and extractions, and even the extreme degree-of-difficulty double buccal (in Olympic years only). So this current round of pain, right around my recent extraction site, was bound to be one of them or worse, right? Except it turned out to be something I haven't had to deal with since my earliest years:
I was teething.
Apparently, after an extraction, it's not especially unusual for some of the bone above a former upper tooth to try moving into the vacated downstairs apartment. A flake-size piece had been attempting that and breaking the gumline. It's now out, thanks to some poking and prodding that was painful but quick enough not even to require numbing.
Ron quickly deduced it wasn't a nerve problem with the adjacent tooth, as I feared, because HE remembered it having been root canaled sometime in my dreadful dental past. I told him I wanted to start keeping score at home from now on, so I can have an idea of the state of each of the 32 (now more like mid-20s) the good Lord shorted me on. After all, why should people only be looking at your dental records after you're burned to death beyond recognition?
It's still a little sore in the area of pokage, but I've been off ibuprofen for almost 24 hours and it's only noticeable because of the almost week of noticing. It is SO much less painful in an emotional sense, just knowing what it is and isn't.
Meanwhile, look for me in the office soon. I'll be the one with the tube of Ambseol sucking on a pacifier.
