We spent more than the usual amount of time today with Evil Cat:

That's her in the midst of her Ronco Mister Barber™ spa treatment. The old broad is right around 19 years old and probably on the final descent back to her home country of Hell: she's been peeing all over the kitchen again, horked up her entire dinner last night, and, since she's pretty much given up grooming herself, her fur's gotten all matted and ratty and she smells constantly of catbox. Last weekend, and again tonight, I gave her a full-on bath in the tub to get the stink off her. (Old Steve Martin joke: I gave my cat a bath and she liked it! Now if I can only get all this fur off my tongue.) In between, Eleanor has been trying to comb out the mats, but today we wrestled her onto that towel and sheared her like an evil sheep. She was surprisingly compliant with both, and seems, in some roundabout way, to appreciate the attention.
My other major accomplishment du jour was finally putting about 100 CDs away into their cabinets:

I posted to some of the friends included in that inventory, and heard back appreciatively from several of them:
Yes, we still have them all; despite digitizing most of them to our drives and phones, iTunes remains a heartless bitch, plus the tactile joys of the covers, lyrics and liner notes remain.
Since the Steven Page albums from his late 2019 Falls show were still out, I realized these were all of the albums I bought during the pandemic to support musicians- at least the ones that CDs were available for. It was a bittersweet turn back through these rough months.
Of those of you who might see this, some of the reshelvings (alphabetical, not by "height and popularity") were obvious: Jen Chapin wound up next to her dad, Mark Rust next to Rusted Root. But Dave Ostrowski now resides next to Joan Osborne, Dave Rowe Music alongside Linda Ronstadt, and Maria Sebastian will now get to chill with a spoken-word CD of Amy Sedaris.
Y'all are in good company. Y'all ARE good company❤

As I mentioned yesterday, it was a long one- first time I've taken my car to Rochester in a while, and whether because of the snowy and cold weather or what, my back was aching way more than usual when I got home. We then turned right around into Eleanor's car to go to an art opening on the Elmwood Strip:

We'd never been before, but the building, not particularly historic, is still an awesome blend of old turret and new porch. The main display was this collage from a bunch of local charter school:

and its organizer, a friend and poet whose initials are literally BLM, did a reading of several of her works in the chill of the early evening:

I got going as usual to get the dog out and about first thing. The morning was much sunnier than recent ones, which brought out more squirrels than usual, which brought out our neighbors' pug mix Vernon to check them out:

This is the couple who had a weird visit they reported to us the other day. A guy showed up at their door looking for someone who didn't live there. Most likely this was another neighbor of ours, from the various adventures from last summer. Making it weird was that the guy appeared to be probably stoned out of his mind, and was at G's door wearing nothing but a hospital johnny coat. It's often weird around here, but not that weird. We never saw hide nor hair (ewwww) of the guy, but it made us wonder.

Speaking of stoners:

That was one of the many Bernie memes to pop up after he showed up in that outfit at Joe's inauguration. I vaguely remembered what it was: a 70s kid show out of channel 11 in New York called The Magic Garden. I missed its target audience by a few years, but I remember the promos for it, and it was about as hippy-dippy as you could get. I could even remember the theme song, updated for the meme:
A magical garden of make believe
Where Medicare’s for all and college is free
And a magic tree grows solar panels
Here in the garden what we say and do
Is banned on Parler and also Fox News
Can you move like a turtle?
Moscow-Moscow-Mitch!
Or stamp your foot like Trump, that bitch!
I've since learned that Carol and Paula, now retired teachers, are working on an animated reboot of the show for today's kids:

If anything's gonna help get weed legalized in New York, it's this.
Other Bernie sightings of late:

The Boulevard of Broken Memes
and this one, summing up just how universal they've become:

"Close that door."
