We had no choir in church today- their directors' father passed away on Friday- so a substitute organist did all the music, including an offertory piece listed in the bulletin as being titled "Serenity."

Naturally, I expected it to sound like this. (That's not the recording of the theme used on the series, but a nice acoustic version I came upon a few years back.)

As with others today, the focus of the service was on the Beatitudes, and their Hebrew Scripture precursor from the prophet Micah: "To live justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God."

Most Christians today wouldn't know how to do that if God Himself came down and thwapped them upside the head. Including at least a few under our own steeple.

Still, we press on. Somebody's got to.

Long as I'm illegally uploading contributing to this fair-use discussion of things, I figured I'd pass on the three David Frye tracks I mentioned last night, since several of you later made reference to remembering him with similar fondness:

Golda Goes Washington

Rocky Reports

My Way

If anyone feels especially jonesy for the whole thing, let me know.

----

Speaking of joneses, Ebony has been all wound up lately about wanting to play with one of her toys. She grabs the purple ball, runs down the hall, to the back door, all around, drops it, runs for the orange ball, does the same thing.  So Eleanor resolved to take her out in the back for a game of fetch when we got home.

Stupid dog barked like mad when she saw mommy going O-U-T, went in the back with her for all of about 2 minutes, then headed back to the door to be let in.

Yes, we still press on with them, too.

Oh wow!

One of my favorite movies ever is finally coming to Netflix on March 1st:

Recently fired security guards Ivan (John Cusack) and Josh (Tim Robbins) are sure they've found their calling: starting a production company to make music videos -- including one for a legendary soul duo (Sam Moore and Junior Walker) who could use a career boost. But in the process, they begin careening through an outrageous underworld of chicken and waffles, Menudo concerts and a presidential candidate with a fairy princess fetish.

Cast:
John Cusack, Tim Robbins, Mary Crosby, Clu Gulager, Katy Boyer, Jessica Walter, Sam Moore, Junior Walker, Susan Tyrrell, Doug McClure, Connie Stevens, King Cotton, Don Cornelius, Martha Quinn, Bobcat Goldthwait, Jello Biafra, Weird Al Yankovic, Ted Nugent, Michael Nesmith, Courtney Love.

The video for the chicken place is one of those few literal ROTFLMAO moments for me. Have Twin City Ambulance standing by!
