::taps microphone:: Is this thing on?

It’s been a hiatus now of, now, what, over three weeks? Life has definitely gone on, and I’m still undecided about whether this effort will be shut down, scaled back, moved to another medium, or none of the above. We’ve had plenty going on, with some pictures to prove it, so I’ll mostly focus on those.

Work has been pretty quiet except when it hasn’t been. Friday the ninth and Tuesday the 20th were very full days, the first with a continuation of an extended hearing not involving my client being present but where I get to sit for over two hours order from the witness actually climbed out of his potted plant holder and objected to a very objectionable question. Then two Tuesdays ago, I had just an endless run of appearances and appointments, two of which had the soundtrack of “Does anybody really know what time it is?” One client who specifically told me he wanted to do an appointment by phone showed up in an office I was not yet in, and then the 7:15 PM I went to turned out to be a 6:30 I was not at, thanks to the court not giving the client correct information. Both of those worked out more or less OK, though.

That was my last trip to Rochester or anywhere until yesterday. When I went to plug in the hybrid yesterday, I saw this guy in the EV charging port:

Spider-Man- the alternate Origin Story.

A friend who knows spiders saw that, identified it as a yellow sac, and was kinda surprised it didn't go for a Mazda.

We also finished some much needed projects around the house, big and small.

Biggest was the window install. Desired for decades, planned in the past year, contracted in March, manufactured over the summer and finally the day came for their installation two Wednesdays ago.  Plenty needed to be done before they got here: curtains, blinds and all their hardware needed to come down. Furniture needed movin'. And, since the inside wood frames around the windows would remain and hadn't been attended to, ever, except for the one in the kitchen? Eleanor spent most of the previous weeks sanding, staining and polyurethaning them. On two of the windows, she also needed to remove pieces of wood that matched the frames of the old windows but wouldn't match the new ones. None was bigger than a couple of inches in any dimension, but it was complex, detailed and cramped work to be done.

I helped with the other removals and later putting-backs, and also attended to the biggest task of the day itself: getting the dog out of the house so she and the workers wouldn't be stressed out of their minds. Fortunately, she still has a standing rezzie with the doggy daycare place we tried out months ago, and for just over thirty bucks, she had fun and we had a day of peace and quiet from her.  We got a laugh when they told me I'd need to bring in her updated vet record and I saw the name of the tech who worked on her last month:

I like that, I told them, you can start as a patient and work your way up.

Anyway, she seems to like the new windows, too:

They're beautiful, and man they keep the draft out. We held off turning the heat on until yesterday, because even when the thermostat was reading mid-60s, it felt comfortable. The bedroom blinds have been replaced with curtains which the kittyboyz have trouble destroying:

Ah, but above them in that room?  The one project I did the most work on. Gods help me- and they did, or rather it was Eleanor- I did an actual electrical project today! That room/office had the original 1960 fixture on the overhead light, which looked dated and Donna Reed Show. She found an updated one a few weeks ago, and when the bulb blew out on the old one, I became determined to replace the fixture at the same time. I’d say we did about 50/50 on the job, and this did not happen to either of us:

Once we got the fixture up and glowing, we found that the frosted fixture cover had a crack in it, but Valu replaced it and that room now looks genuinely 21st century:)

And one more thing with a crack in it: Eleanor's head. While I was at work earlier this week, she went up a ladder on the patio project, a screw she was drilling hit some resistance, the drill recoiled and it was off to the Doc in a Box to get it stapled. That job, blessedly is  now FINISHED, and we can actually use the patio for the next week or so until next season!

I'm writing this to the sound of an album we both once owned by McGuinn, Clark and Hillman, remaining flock members of the Byrds who regrouped for it in the late 70s. Roger McGuinn played near here two weekends ago and I thought about going but didn't. I've also passed on Mary Fahl, Jonatha Brooke and a local duo named Meyer & McGuire who I've heard good things from. I do already have a ticket for Rochester soulstress Danielle Ponder, who's returning home for a show in about three weeks, and may also go see the singer of this amazing song there earlier that week.

But tonight would have been 10,000 Maniacs return to Western New York. Our tickets were booked and, unlike my last encounter with the band, I could've walked home from UB after the show if I had car trouble. This show was the first to go in the second wave of cancellations announced by the group last month due to illnesses among members. We were sad but respect that health and family come first. Center for the Arts has refunded the purchase including the Ticketmonster fees, and I think tonight to celebrate the occasion, I will finally watch the video of that Jamestown show that I loved to pieces despite the post-concert agitas involved with getting home. If you haven't seen it, please join me at 8 Eastern (subject to occasional look-ins on the Mets):

----

Ah, the Mets.

They've hung tight and stood tall, keeping first place in at least a timeshare with the Braves for almost the entire year. Both teams are guaranteed entry to the playoffs, and whoever doesn't win the division will host all three (if needed) games of a first round series in their home stadium. But there's benefits and bragging rights for finishing first, and they have a crucial three-game series in Hotlanta that began last night....

not so well.  Good thing, though, is we only need to win one of the two remaining games there to come out tied, and we hold a tiebreaker on them. One of our best pitchers goes tonight, another good one of late tomorrow night. Both will be national telecasts, which means (a) I can watch them and (b) our SNY broadcast team will get the games off.

These guys,

Oops. Keith, who I secured on my own in July, fell down go boom in real life and missed a few telecasts while he healed up- but a dear blogger friend scored me Ron and Gary for my desk at home games in August and September:

There, that's better.

Gametime's soon, and we have a film to finish and books to read I need to report on. Also,

from both Emily and poet friends of ours:) Might be tomorrow, might be next month. Ya never know.

... the witness climbed out of his potted plant holder ... I probably don't want to know.

Congrats on new windows. :-) But I am sorry to hear about Eleanor's noggin. Ouch.
