Within ten minutes of me typing this line, the BBC America broadcast of the series 9 (rebooted) Doctor Who premiere will begin recording here.

At some later time within that hour, quite possibly, my alternative British subject self will be able to view the advert-free iPlayer version of that same episode.

Either way, my comments will appear tomorrow rather than tonight. Today, I never got much beyond second gear, anyway, so it would've been a push to process and write even if I'd been watching iPlayer in real time between 1500 and 1600 (or whatever BBC1 on summer time works out to).

We did have a remote connection to the show, both last night and tonight. Princess Bride was one of the first two DVDs we ever bought, and we brought it out for an overdue re-viewing- getting as far as Miracle Max and Valerie last night, then finishing tonight. Also, we found ourselves realising tonight that Mark Knopfler did the soundtrack for the film, as he also did for 1984's Local Hero, which co-starred Peter Capaldi. So there's that.

There was also an earlier disturbance in the Whoniverse over the past few days, as word leaked that the current Companion, played by Jenna Coleman, will be leaving after the Christmas episode. I've always liked the various incarnations of Clara, and was pleased that last season's rumoured departure was a red herring, or skittle-coloured Dalek, or whatever.  Now, Auntie has confirmed the departure and one gets to wondering which direction they'll go.  Given the number of female nominees for the putative Thirteen, I'm thinking a male replacement would lead to that transition. Rory and Mickey blazed the trail, but Phil, or William, or Arthur, or George, would seal it.  We'll see.

Meanwhile, someone came up with this image for the series(es) to date-

-to which my only response was:

Mine keeps stopping between 8 and 9. I must've done something to Hurt it.

Not sure when the new series will be broadcast here. Was hoping it would be, well, yesterday, but apparently that time travel thing is country-dependent. Am keeping and eye, not to mention automatic recording, out for it.
