As of noon today, Emily is ABG- all but graduated. She turned in her thesis film on time (well, slightly after on-time; she tried to turn it in a half-hour before the noon deadline, but was locked out until early afternoon. And the website for upload screwed up her aspect ratio, but I think she's fixed it.)

So she's done with her degree, for all intents and purposes. Her film will be screened at RIT late on Tuesday afternoon. It was supposed to be scheduled for screening on Saturday, but apparently she missed a deadline earlier in the morning for seniors to claim priority times, and a bunch of freshmen filled up the weekend. That's okay, though; she can use the few extra days of decompression, and both Eleanor and I are free after 2:00 or so on Tuesday to get there.

Next Thursday will be my travel day to ensure my sister gets to campus for the Friday events, and we will then spend most of the 23rd celebrating four, 22 and 112 years (comment and I'll explain that math) of getting us to this accomplishment.

The other odd news of the day was LJ's decision to foist an unannounced major change on us. The user interface is now very different, and very blue and white (kin yew say Facebook?). When you first see it, you will be given an option to opt out of it. Unless you like New Things, I suggest you do so, at least for now- because once you get past the first opt-out screen, your LJ name will be bound to the new format (even on computers differing from the one you encountered it on), and you will have to learn to live with it. As I am; hence, this entry:)

It's still possible to get back to the old LJ design; take a look at the instructions here.

I still don't see a resemblance to Facebook. Every time LJ redesigns part of the site the major complaint is that it's too blue, or that the white is too glaring and all I can think to myself is "It was blue and white before. It's been blue and white for almost a decade. How is this blue and white different than the last blue and white?"

I opted out of the new interface as soon as I saw it. I didn't even bother to read about the new features and all that crap. I was too blinded by it to read. I just found the 'Opt Out' button, clicked it, and all is well. Ugh! The log in screen that I've always used, greenquotebook.livejournal.com is still in the new format, but if I use the root directory to log in, www.livejournal.com, the old format still comes up. Rah! I love LJ and am a paying customer, but if they pull that crap again, I'll move my journal and be done with them.

Congratulations to Emily!

Thank you:) I've passed along the fix (duly credited) in my morning Messy Computer Post. (http://captainsblog.livejournal.com/1251457.html)

And maybe it's not so much trying to make it Facebook blue as to match the blue in the Russian flag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Russia).

See comment above (and/or my followup post (http://captainsblog.livejournal.com/1251457.html)) with more about fixing this nonsense.

And thanks:) Seems like last week she was James's age....

She was. And James was that big round thing between my boobs and my thighs that prevented me from tying my own shoes.
