Every five years or so I look back on my life and I have a good laugh...
-Emily Saliers, "Watershed."

Five years ago this morning, we weren't laughing.  Plenty of water in the shed, though, and every tree limb overhead DIDN'T sit and wait; today's the anniversary of the October morning when we awoke to a freak early-autumn blast of wet, heavy snow that downed power lines, devestated trees, and made our lives miserable for most of the ensuing two weeks.

Here's the first post I managed to get up, three full days later. A week after that, we were still powerless and, in my case, suddenly computerless after my then-laptop had a fatal accident at a supposedly wifi-wired laundromat.

It took nine days before I could post this happy news of restored power and Franken-repaired computer.

You can fiddle with the "previous" and "next" buttons on those to see the in-betweens, most posted from one Wegmans or another which never lost their power or wireless. Sadly, I had no pictures of my own, and the few links to news articles now seem to be currently dead:(

All in all, we were pretty lucky. We had virtually no trees on our property when we moved here, and the ones we added (mostly at Eleanor's direction, although Blind Squirrel Husband did manage to bring back a pin oak in the trunk of a small car that is now among the biggest on our block) were mostly young and supple enough to survive the beating. While we were among the last of the powerless, we suffered little damage to home or foliage, compared to many who lost most if not all of the shade they had.

The ecosystem seems to have borne most of the blow, although I fear for them-all hearing we have another High Wind Warning scheduled for a 24-hour period beginning tomorrow evening. No snow is forecast, but hell- none was forecast that time.

Wow, those posts are amazing. I mean I knew how you guys would probably deal with something like that, but it was still really fun to read.
