I really don't need all that much to maintain the weight I seem to have gotten to. Two weight training classes a week and an hour or so of cardio most days- that seems my goal and my limit. Usually I achieve it, but days like the past two make it harder.

Yesterday, I got to the elliptical around 4 or so. Five minutes after I showed up, Cardio Chick settles in on the one to my left. Very thin, very fit, very pretty (maybe even as she is in her own mind)- and reeking of enough nicotine to start a multistate class action lawsuit. It was all I could do to not choke for the next ten minutes. Could I have moved? Maybe- there were no options in that row other than the one to her left that had been vacated- but things get pretty busy in there between 4 and 6, and I'm pretty set in where I want to be, anyway, so I didn't feel I needed to be the one to take action. If I run into her again, though, I will pick one in the Land of Far Far Away if she's already there, or say something to her before she settles in about possibly securing a visa to that kingdom herself.

----

No smoking today, though- other than me, cursing the timing gods.

I was up and at-'em not long after 8 today, a lot of it in preparation for a trial starting in Rochester at 10 tomorrow morning. From the moment I started in, until the time I took one pre-scheduled conference call at 1:30 right before leaving to meet another lawyer at my office? Four phone calls. One a sales call, one annoyance call about a bankrupt client's account, one a return of my dropped mobile call to tomorrow's client, but one very good-karma one from a client who may be able to help out an online friend who's in a bit of a pickle right now.

And that was it. I made calls, sent emails and letters inviting calls, and other than those four calls in five-plus hours, got nothing- until I forwarded calls to my mobile and stepped onto the elliptical at the slightly earlier hour of 3 today.

Calls.

Everybody suddenly decided they needed me and needed me NOW. The opposing lawyer from tomorrow's hearing, to tell me he was sending me some last-minute documents. (Also, the judge from tomorrow's hearing emailing me for a last-minute status update, which my opponent had received hours before, his call told me, but I hadn't- Hizzoner hadn't used the right email addy for me.) The subject of my meeting with the other lawyer in my office. Another call from the same annoyance pit about the same bankrupt client. And at least three others, making six or more, all in barely over two hours, none with me in any reasonable position to respond.

I can only imagine how much fun tomorrow's gonna be when the phone's on extended-absence message all day.
