It wasn't THAT long a day today, but those almost 6½ hours on the road included nine stops all over Rochester, on a snowy day with few long-term parking options downtown and, thus, a lot of driving to find metered spaces and a lot of walking between them.  I almost walked out of court in someone else's overcoat; had major stress over a client's payment that was due, now, almost two weeks ago; and lasted barely half an hour into cardio by the time I got home tonight before bailing and retreating to the comforts of hearth and home (and the necessity of shoveling our walkways and steps).

Yet little of that matters when the middle of those stops is at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que.

Sometime late last week, on my last Rachacha trip, I drove by a bar on West Ridge Road that ignited a brain cell connected to a friend of close to 30 years acquaintance.  She works downtown, but not every day, and thus it had been years since we'd connected; since she was at work today, we planned on the Dino for an almost-hour of catching up.

We shared many stories of lives since ours last crossed. It was sad to hear that all three of her younger brothers have already died, and her sister moved on to parts Far Far Away. Yet it was redeeming to hear her stories of reconnecting with old friends who've moved back to town, and of taking in a variety of animals from horse to kitten, who just needed a place to be at home in. (We can relate to that sort of thing here;)  I told her about Emily's studies, and tried to show her the animation she sent us the other day, but for some bizarre reason, Apple iPhones can't play Apple QuickTime videos (anybody know what's up with that?).  It was time well and happily spent, before heading off for an hour of filing, an hour of court, and a final one between me and home.

Somewhere in there, she mentioned that she'd just had a letter published in the Rochester equivalent of Artvoice- one I remembered reading, and liking, and even sharing the issue with Eleanor (the main article in it was about Rochester's Good Food Collective, an organization with goals very similar to Farmers & Artisans). I picked it up just now and, sure enough, there was her name at the bottom of the letter. Either the type gets smaller as I get older, or my brain does:P

The iPhone plays H.264. Quicktime X (the current version) should be able to create this without any problems.

Mmmm, Dinosaur BBQ. If I weren't heading into the frozen wilderness this weekend, I'd go to Troy and get some. Om nom!

Hurrah for catching up with a friend, and for good food, but BOOOOO on overdue payments and stress. :(

Damn- they're in Capitaland now, too? I knew about the outpost in Harlem, but I've been wishing for years that they'd come here. We have a place called Fat Bob's that comes close, but the sides, especially, are not the same.

One of my longtime LJ friends is from Syracuse, but lives in Cali, and she had a TSA experience a few years back where they confiscated a bottle of Dino sauce from her after she had to spend a night at LaGuardia when a Syracuse connecting flight arrived too late. (The "Made in Syracuse" store at their airport is on the secure side of the barrier, but she had to take it outside the perimeter when she got canceled.) I felt so bad when she told the story, I sent a couple bottles to her in LA from Wegmans, which evilly sells the stuff even here. Those never made it, so I sent a second batch to her office. I am nothing if not determined when it comes to good barbecue;)

Yup, they opened a Troy outpost over the summer. I haven't been there yet, but one of my coworkers says the food is just as good as Syracuse. I'll have to find out.

Good BBQ is worth being determined for! There's two places up here, including one just down the street, that actually do a pretty darn good brisket, but they still have nothing on Dinosaur. It's worth TSA frisking. :-D
