captainsblog: (I Voted)

Not a whole lotta votin' going on over on my side of the aisle today- but I still did it.

County Court: I like both guys, so I voted against the incumbent City Court judge, since if he gets kicked upstairs, Urkel will just name some Grassroots hack to the position.

State Attorney General: Since this is really the lieutenant governor's position in this state (the last, and probably next, Guv came straight from the AG's office), I went with the one I thought would be most electable in four years. That would be the downstate Assemblyman who investigated the New York Yankees for corruption, and the current governor for corruption involving the New York Yankees. (Plus, if he wins the primary, we'll get an incumbent out of Albany, and that's always a good thing. Yes, Jenn, except for yours.)

Town Committee:  The Amazing Flying Ward Brothers tried carpetbagging two people I'd never heard of into my district, and the town boss even personally autographed the last-minute flyer asking us to support them, even though I'd never heard of them. If party HQ wants us to do something that bad, that's ample motivation to do the opposite, and so we did.

And that was it. None of the Republican-side soap opera of Carl Palomino gunning (literally) for the nomination- and from the look of the Get Off My Lawn 85-year-olds, magnifying glasses in hand, who were marching to our polling place, he might just pull it off. I didn't realize until today, though, who his running mate is; they must've just printed up the signs. Mike Ognibene was a Batavia Ford dealer who had his entire inventory repossessed, and a string of angry customers who paid for extended warranties that wouldn't be honored anywhere else. Being from Genesee County, I presume they blamed illegal immigrants for it rather than Mike himself, and that they'll have no trouble entrusting him with the public's inventory for four years /eyeroll.

Still, it will all make for some interesting drama- as will the Delaware Senate race where the crazy Teabagger turns out (a) to have brought a multimillion dollar lawsuit against a Conservative think tank and (b) based it, in large part, on being denied employment suitable to her masters'-level (as opposed to, um, master-based) education when, it turns out, she didn't even get her bachelors degree until earlier this year.

As the dude on Channel 13 used to say, We'll Be Watching.

We voted early and often. Not much contested on the Democratic ballot. Auditor was the biggie.

We'll see if the Republic is still intact in the morning.

Govs have running mates? I remember Ognibene's commercials ("We'll see you right here!") and ensuing *cough* scandal. I actually hope that Palomino gets it. That will REALLY ensure the Dem win.
