Funny how Reagan tried using Springsteen songs to tell everyone how great America was. As with most of the smoke and mirrors around that old coot, it didn't really work out that way when you really listened.
Work's been busy, but I represent a lot of little guys, and they're getting squeezed. One client was directly affected by the NFL lockout, and that resulted in a June payment to me turning into an August one if I'm lucky. Others are stalling on already small, sometimes discounted payment amounts. Lots of tires are getting kicked, but either they're not coming back when they hear the price, or they like the price but need to have someone or something else pay it that they, and certainly I, cannot control.
Meanwhile, I have come to the realization that I am, for all intents and purposes, unemployed. At least as far as any of the new-economy employers are concerned who are brazenly posting "NO UNEMPLOYED NEED APPLY" in their want ads (therefore being among the few who even are posting such ads). That means, essentially, I have no choice but to bear down and bear with it.
Emily is constantly thinking of new things she's gonna need for her college apartment. She's been amazingly lucky getting many of them for little or no cost, but the list keeps getting longer, and how can I say "no" to her without turning into my own father?
As with many things, sometimes just bitching about them makes the situation improve. I sure hope so.
