Eleanor and I both wound up staying in Buffalo today, as Emily set forth on her first full day of activi-RITies. Early in the day, Eleanor took care of some much-needed purchases for the greenhouse, while I spent most of the day finalizing paperwork for one client (technically due yesterday, but nobody, as of yet, has complained). In between, we each received a number of calls from Em, about things she needed and when she needed them. We had our moments of confusion and cross-talk about those, but by day's end, I think I got most of them under control.
It will take more than a day for new routines to settle in, between her there and us here. Not Helping is that the animals are very aware of her absence (and ours for a good chunk of yesterday- "chunk" as in That Wot They Blew, on at least two occasions earlier today), and they are adding to the uncertainties rather than reveling in the extra attention they can now claim.
My car is already packed for a brief dorm run set for first thing tomorrow, before I head to a 10 a.m. court appearance there. Em has college meetings all day after that and just couldn't commit to any later time. More and more, that will be the way things will be.
