Loose ends
Aug. 19th, 2010 10:54 pmTook care of a lot of little things today- and one not-so-little:
* Made progress resolving what is scheduled to be a court commitment tying up two full days, and parts of two others, beginning a week from Monday; one of them is the day Emily is scheduled to arrive at RIT, the last of them is a day when the same court scheduled me in a totally different place at the same time. It may be down to as little as a day and a half, or possibly resolved on papers without any actual appearances that week.
* Braved the back-to-school aisles of Office Max to acquire a backlog of supplies that I needed, plus a printer and external CD drive for Em; I got there right at 6 p.m., when the colored-folder and rainbow-highlighter crowd was home having dinner, so it was a relatively painless shopping experience for me.
* Got in over 90 minutes of workout time, including my second-to-last "summer" class with the trainer who's done an awesome and (don't tell her) fun job of getting me off my butt. The "fall" schedule begins the week after Labor Day, and will be evenings and Saturdays instead of weekday mornings.
* Was asked to assist our senior pastor at this Sunday's service, the first time since getting my "piece of paper" that I'll be doing it under our own steeple.
* Speaking of "pieces of paper," we finally received one, more than four years after a court journey of our own began, which certifies that we have successfully reorganized our finances and are debt-free other than our mortgage and the $20,000 of RIT debt I'm about to sign up for. It was an oddly open-ended process to bring about the formal closing of the case- we made our last payment in February and had to wait through various time barriers after that, the last of which passed about a week ago. It looked entirely possible that a process begun on April Fools Day of 2006 might result in a final order dated Friday the 13th, but Thursday the 19th will have to do. Not as poetic or ironic, but immensely satisfying. Best of all, it turned out that I wound up picking today as the day- just a quick phone call to a civil servant- not a judge or legislator or anyone with any more legal authority over our lives or finances than a random person on the street- but one who, upon seeing that everything was cleared for it, just pushed a button on a keyboard and issued a document that confirmed, once and for all, that we are in a far better place than we were at this time just over four years ago.
* Went to bed before 11:00 in hopes of a good night's sleep. Well, at least I will if I stop typing, like, now;)

Date: 2010-08-20 03:04 am (UTC)Hurrah for surviving the back-to-school rush! I have to make an assault on Staples at some point, $deity help me, for I am weak in the face of inexpensive office supplies.
And congratulations on being debt-free (well, except for the good debt you've got)! That's wonderful!
