Not to be confused with "Psych-o client," although I always seem to have a few of those close by;)

It's just weird how the cycles of work go by. I've represented one company, on and off, for going on six years. Lately, it's been mostly off- just one age-old pending case that seemed to fall into assorted cracks of the court system, before a letter finally arrived a couple of weeks ago, indicating there would be a brief appearance required in it this afternoon.

There wasn't anything new or exciting about it to discuss with the client until after it occurred. So imagine my surprise when the phone rang about three hours before the scheduled appearance- from the client. About two brand-new pieces of business, one rather urgently in need of a response, which I got right out the door.

Gee. I wonder why Apple Computer hasn't called with any legal business in a while.

Dangerous day on the roads here today. An 18-year old Clarence High School kid died in a motorcycle accident sometime this morning, after turning and running after a routine traffic stop.  It was on the very stretch of Main Street that we drove out and back on to test-drive the Smart car two days ago.  Then, around mid-afternoon, a still-unidentified woman died in a two-car crash on the main state highway that goes to and past UB.

I also heard- on a Rochester sports radio show, of all things- about two separate juries out that way acquitting two drunken drivers of the highest charges leveled against them in their tag-team killing of a suburban schoolteacher while she rode her bike on a state-highway shoulder back last July.  The teacher was struck from behind by the male motorcyclist (who did get convicted of second degree manslaughter and DWI), then struck by a northbound car driven by his female drinking-and-drugging buddy. She avoided all but a misdemeanor DWI conviction.  It was eerily reminiscent of a case here last year, where a local doctor beat all but the misdemeanor DWI rap for an accident where he drove drunk, killed a skateboarder, fled the scene and tried to cover up evidence.

Last week, we learned that now two of our local Doctor Death's jurors have been charged themselves with drunken driving. Talk about being tried by a jury of your peers. And why won't they lawyer up, fight the charges, and hope they get a jury of their own peers to slap them on the wrist?
