Time of death was approximately 2:50 p.m. on February 5th. Police suspect the Indigo Girls were involved.

I'd loaded a CD into iTunes, needing more Amy and Emily in my life. (Eleanor marathoned our entire collection on Super Bowl Sunday; that might have sucked enough testosterone out of the atmosphere all by itself to be responsible for the ensuing blackout.) It imported- slowly, but then, I'd been out at court and the AVG scan was still going and I had a dozen other things open- but after the import was done, the phone wouldn't sync. "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred," it helpfully said. I hunted down the error message and was told to start by updating my iTunes version. Grumble grumble grumble; they annoy me almost daily about new iterations of either the iTunes version or the iPhone OS, and I usually turn them off until they up the version number by a dot dot dot and they come back, but., eh, whatevs. It downloaded, installed, restar....shit.

The full Vista system booted, the Blue Screen Not of Death (usually) said "please wait," and that's when death occurred. Couldn't get to safe mode, repair mode, anything other than corpse mode. We're off to see the guru, at this point hoping beyond hope he can save the hard drive, because while I got all my essential work data off the thing, I realized, too late, that the one thing still on there uncopied is, ironically enough, the music.

There's an Indigo Girls show in Rochester on Saturday March 2nd. I might do better just asking them to sing the damn song to me then.
