Last night's tv hiccup has been BOO'd back into compliance.  I googled issues with Vista and VGA monitor connections, and the first suggestion was to do a system restore. Which I did, along with a quick Malwarebytes run while I was out at church.  Between one or the other, the living room TV now plays well with this grumpy old laptop again, so we can finish any number of series we'd begun on it before this past weekend.

On the other hand, our even grumpier old XP laptop connected to Eleanor's printer was in need of multiple updates today before she could print a fairly important document.  Several of these were from the Adobe/Flash family, and each of them was insistent on offering us a "free" download of McAfee virus software as part of their previously seemless update processes.

Um, no thanks. I likes my free AVG just fine, and I'm rather peeved at having to decline these multiple "optional" installs- especially considering the source.  You see, until recently, I had no clue who the namesake of McAfee antivirus software actually was. Now, thanks to NPR, I do, and it ain't pretty (this story's from December 12th):

No wonder his software partners are pimping his product at every turn; defense lawyers aren't cheap, and most of them are crawling with viruses;)
