It may be Fathers Day,...
Jun. 19th, 2011 04:23 pmbut this might be the closest I've ever come to the anticipatory effect of being pregnant.
I've seen several pages of Teh Book as it will appear in print. It's rather beautiful. Once the remaining composition is done, I will be able to take it the next step into actual printage, by setting it up for distribution and entry into things like catalogs and booksites. Three weeks from Saturday, if all goes well, I will be passing out copies to some family and friends of the honoree, and getting signatures on my own copy from many of the authors, which will become as treasured to me as my long-lost high school yearbook.
This shouldn't be a big deal. I remember telling people in college that, especially in my last three semesters, I had my name on the front page of The Cornell Daily Sun about as often as any professor, administrator, student leader, local politician or athlete. I even got a wire story or two going far beyond those awful-smelling waters, which might have been above the fold. But that was a long time ago, and just as I didn't do that work for the recognition then, I'm not doing it for the recognition now, either, but it will still be a pretty major rush when I'm actually breaking shrinkwrap off a pile of the things.
----
One of my favorite Met bloggers does not have a piece in the book, just because she and I didn't connect on the project, but she is also a regular writer about Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Not surprisingly, Caryn had some memorable things to say about Clarence Clemons, with some amazing photographic accompaniments, which can be found here.
