Also saw this over the weekend, but only now got round to scanning it. Apart from the sentiment itself being so damn beyootiful-

- it's even awesomer because the "Rich's" in question are the makers of that totally Repressed Suburban White People product, Coffee Rich. The Rich family also owns the local AAA baseball team, currently the affiliate of the New York Mets. Yesterday in church, I donned my silly-horned Bisons hat at the lectern and invited the congregation to join us for a Sunday afternoon game in a month or so. Seeing this ad makes me want to give the Riches our business all the more:)

Very cool journal entry. Very cool user pic. Very cool info. I am going to pay attention to Coffee Rich! Gay friendly baseball team owners? How cool is that??

My hubby and I are thinking of making some sort of announcement in church about the passage of the gay marriage law in NYS. However, we've joked about which members of the church we'd have to wrestle out to the parking lot beforehand.

It's an interesting crowd. Our head minister is originally from Arkansas, and the assistant is a hispanic Texan. This past Sunday, a member who plays guitar and sings beautifully led the hymns. The last one, Just A Closer Walk With Thee, got a bit rowdy by WASP standards, with people clapping and good Lord, a few of them DANCING. I loved it.

It was a beautiful hymn, beautifully played, and evoking the old Van Morrison rendition of it.

And in my case, far worse things.

You see, back when Don Imus was funny, he did a spoof of tv preacher types who he called Billie Sol Hargis. One of his bits was for the First National Bank of Him, where if you sent his church your money, he'd have it waiting for you in heaven, proving that you CAN take it with you. The jingle was to the tune of that hymn, and of course it's burned in my brain even more than the original sacred lyrics:

♫Save a nickel or a dime
Save it for some peace of mind
Save it now while you're alive
It'll be in heaven when you arrive

Yes, a check will be okay
Get it in the mail today
Why have the folks that love you so
Fighting for it when you go?♫
